Purpose of structure Public Organization of Ostomy Patients ASTOM
 
The main purpose of activity of the Public Organization of Ostomy Patients ASTOM is the social rehabilitation of invalids with an intestinal and/or ureteral stoma, their integration into society and adaptation to the  new life circumstances.
 
  The main lines of activity of the Public Organization of Ostomy Patients ASTOM are stated in a number of elaborated and realised target programmes, aimed at social and home adaptation and  person-in-environment orientation of ostomy patients, namely:
 
 - assistance in supply of every ostomy patient with modern ostomy care facilities;
 - assistance in developing the national production of modern stoma care facilities;
 - support in developing new methods and new products in the field of proctology (including stomal therapy) and their promotion;
 - support in developing social aspects of the ostomy rehabilitation process and scientific methods of social rehabilitation;
 - carrying out the post-operative ostomy rehabilitation in cooperation with doctors, assistance in organisation of stoma offices;
 - organisation of social and psychological rehabilitation for depression relief and moral support to ostomy patients;
 - psychological preparation of patients for the forthcoming surgery;
 - organisation of social assistance for low-income ostomy patients;
 - employment assistance for ostomy invalids;
 - preparation and edition of reference and information materials on problems concerning the rehabilitation of patients with an intestinal and/or ureteral stoma.
